Wow, this is currently unbeatable. You get a truly massive 5% cashback for your first 3 months with this card, then it drops down to a tiered system where you will still get up to 1.5% cashback on everything after that!
In the first 3 months your 5% rate is limited to a maximum of £2,000 spend - but that alone will put £100 back in your pocket.
The tiered system pays you 0.5% on the first £3,500 per year, 1% from £3,500 up to £10,000, then 1.5% on everything after that.
So if you are planning some big spending, the Amex Platinum card will give you the best cashback rate you can get.
And even if you don't have big purchases planned, it's quite easy to divert things you would normally pay by debit card or cash onto your AMEX card instead. So you can get 5% cashback on everything from supermarket shopping to buying petrol.
